An opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Aerosol Generating Procedures (AGP) PPE Nurse to join the Manchester Community Health Protection Team which is expanding in response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Manchester Community Health Protection Team works closely with all partners across community, health and social care settings in Manchester to share evidence-based practice and expertise, develop and implement strategies to prevent, control and reduce human borne disease, carry out training and audit and offer specialist advice and support.

The team have a diverse remit that covers community, health and social care settings across the City of Manchester, including, Nursing and Care Homes, Primary Care, schools and other community venues.

You will lead on a defined area of health protection work as well as working generally across all aspects of the teams’ workload and will be supported by the team of Specialist Health Protection Nurses/ Practitioners and the Deputy Health Protection Lead Nurse.

You will be working across the whole system of health protection and infection prevention and control in collaboration with colleagues across Manchester City Council, Manchester Health and Care Commissioning, Manchester Local Care Organisation, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and other organisations across Greater Manchester and wider.

You will be responsible for delivering and leading a highly specialist clinical workload and be competent and confident to support clinical and non-clinical health & social care workers to safely use PPE required for contact with patients including those at risk of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases such as influenza.

Your role will be to ensure staff across a variety of community settings are trained and supervised to don & doff the correct PPE to provide adequate protection against the risk of infection, including the risks associated with an AGP procedure or task.

You will be responsible for fit testing to ensure that respirators (re-usable or single use) fit the face of an individual in order to provide respiratory protection against harmful pathogens. You will be fully trained for both the qualitative and quantitative fit testing methods.

You will be responsible for providing a high level of comprehensive support to staff being mask fit tested. The role involves excellent organisational skills, to develop & maintain a database of staff across Manchester's health and social care system who have had training, who are fit tested & update as necessary.

Your will practice within your sphere of competence and knowledge and work to professional and regulatory body codes, standards and guidance at all times ensuring that your practice is grounded in evidence based theoretical and practical knowledge. Your will be responsible for developing new and innovative clinical practices, responding to emerging knowledge and techniques and working with other services where appropriate to make improvements.
