Bolton NHS Foundation Trust was formed in 2008 and, in 2011, we became an integrated provider with community health services joining the trust. Covering a catchment area that also incorporates parts of Bury, Wigan and Salford, we deliver hospital and community based services from the Royal Bolton Hospital in Farnworth and from 20 health centres across Bolton, to a catchment population of 320,000 people. We have a CQC rating as good overall and we have some key areas of outstanding practice with an outstanding rating for being well led at every level.

Applications are invited for this new, full time post based at Royal Bolton Hospital. You will join 5 existing cardiologists with interests in pacing and devices (2), heart failure (2) and cardiac imaging (1). You will support the cardiology inpatient and outpatient service at Royal Bolton Hospital and there will be the opportunity to help develop a local service for CT coronary angiography. There is no general medical component to the job and on call for Cardiology will be 1 in 6.

Bolton is an industrial, progressively minded town, thirteen miles to the north of Manchester with an impressive centre attracting a wide range and rich supply of cultural activities. Bolton is centred at the hub of the North Western Region and there is a convenient motorway network giving fast access to neighbouring towns, the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Fylde Coast. The general environment in Bolton and the surrounding countryside is a pleasant one, with good residential areas offering a wide choice of housing styles at competitive prices. Shopping, social and education facilities are first rate. School facilities available comprise of comprehensive and independent primary and secondary education.

Royal Bolton Hospital has a catchment population of approx 350,000 people. There is a 10 bedded Coronary Care Unit and a 25 bedded cardiology ward.

Dobutamine stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography and myocardial perfusion imaging are performed on site. The Sector Pacing lab is sited at Royal Bolton Hospital and is used for bradycardia pacing in Bolton patients and for complex device implantation in patients from Bolton, Wigan and Salford. The Cardiology/ECG Dept undertakes a full range of non-invasive investigation. Coronary intervention is undertaken in the North West Sector catheter laboratories at Wigan Infirmary and also at a local tertiary centre.

You will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
You must be fully registered with the GMC and on the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.
