Your challenges as the Hepatobiliary and Upper GI Surgery fellow at Lifehouse for 2021 will be to provide surgical treatment and care in the field of Hepatobiliary and Upper GI surgery.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for weekly outpatient clinic visits.
  • Inpatient daily ward rounds
  • Surgical assisting and training in a wide range of surgical procedures including Oesophagectomies, Gastrectomies and complex HPB surgeries, working with leading surgeons.
  • Perioperative care of complex surgical patients
  • General surgery database management
  • Tutoring and teaching of CMO, Residents, Registrars, Nursing staff, Students and Interns
  • Responsible for the preparation and running of the weekly meetings including MDT, Morbidity and Mortality, Journal Club, Research and Topic presentations
  • Research with a large clinical database and laboratory research facilities
  • Active role in research projects

Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role you must possess the following skills and experience:

  • Registered with AHPRA
  • Postgraduate qualifications in General Surgery
  • Sub-speciality training in Transplant / Hepatobiliary and Upper GI Surgery is an advantage.
  • Preference is given to applicants who have completed fellowship training but consideration will be given to applicants in their final year of training if they have had considerable exposure to Transplant, Hepatobiliary and Upper GI Surgery.
  • Basic surgical technique and confident to perform a range of Upper GI and Hepatobiliary procedures independently (depending on their background)
  • Basic outpatient procedures
  • Evidence of Publications, Presentations and ongoing interest in Research
  • Interest in Teaching
