As part of Ampcontrol’s continued growth, we are seeking a self-motivated and hands-on Transformer Technician to join the Northern Territory HV Field Service operations team. You will play a pivotal role in the maintenance, repair, testing, commission and fault finding of 2 and 3 phase transformers (11kv/415V or 11kV/1000V/415V) for our valued clients as part of a professional and positive team.

In this role, you will be responsible for undertaking all transformer maintenance and repair duties, including (but not limited to) the Repairs and testing of transformers of various sizing including leak repairs, serving and oil filtration. Above all, you will ensure that all work in completed to a high-quality and in a timely manner.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Installing, repairing and removing transformer components as specified in the Job Plan;
  • Ensuring that work performed is of the highest quality;
  • Running and monitoring equipment during oil testing;
  • Complying with all health and safety regulations and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment;
  • Adhering to all company policies, procedures and business ethics;
  • Representing and promoting Ampcontrol in a professional, and positive manner.

This is a customer-facing role that will suit someone with great communication skills and a positive and professional attitude.

The successful applicants will become part of a highly skilled team of technicians working on regular service sites and projects across NT. These roles require travel to a variety of sites, occasionally interstate, and occasionally working away from home.

  • Experience transformers – Multiple sizes for repairs and testing including Tap changes
  • Experience with Transformer Oil Filtration (desirable but not essential)
  • Commissioning, Testing and Maintenance of Transformers (11kv/415V or 11kV/1000V/415V)
  • Ability to Read, Interpret and Fault Find Electrical Drawings (schematics, SLDs etc.)
  • Competent in writing detailed reports
  • Service Experience in the Electrical Trades/Technical Roles
  • Experience with High Voltage Switchyard and Substation Testing
  • A strong understanding of the Mining, Utility Networks & Industrial sectors
  • Current Driver's license
  • Experience with electrical plant and equipment overhauls and repairs, ideally including power transformers
  • A good understanding of Transformers, including oil and dry types, both design and connection requirements.


  • Electrical Trade Qualifications
  • HV Switching Ticket – desirable
  • Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering- desirable
